DESCRIPTION:Meet at 10 am to pour four packages in the Queen’s Park yard.  See photo in the 2021 picture album. \nWe met and poured four packages.  Pretty windy and cold\, so each package was brought out of the truck cab one of the time.  All went well.  The overwintered colony was fed about 50ml of 1:1 syrup to hold off starvation until they warm up enough to eat the frame of honey we gave them on the weekend.  Four days from now\, we will release the package queens and check the overwintered colony to ensure they are eating their pollen patty and honey.

SUMMARY:Assessing Overwintered Colonies
DESCRIPTION:Join us for the first field day of the year! \nWe will be assessing overwintered colonies and fixing those that need it. \nCheck out “Module 1 – Management of Overwintered Colonies” in the Education section of the website. \n\nClose to 15 people attended.  Discussion with handouts on how to assess an overwintered colony.  Discussion with handout on the bee sting and how to test for and how to treat an anaphylactic reaction.  Field work: assessed over-wintered colonies: of the 8 colonies\, only one survived (#13). Queen failure seemed to be the cause of most colony deaths\, with suggestion of starvation and stress in two of the colonies. Four brood chambers prepped to receive packages this Thursday.  Anna C.
