Assessing Overwintered Colonies

February 27, 2021 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm

Join us for the first field day of the year!

We will be assessing overwintered colonies and fixing those that need it.

Check out “Module 1 – Management of Overwintered Colonies” in the Education section of the website.

Close to 15 people attended.  Discussion with handouts on how to assess an overwintered colony.  Discussion with handout on the bee sting and how to test for and how to treat an anaphylactic reaction.  Field work: assessed over-wintered colonies: of the 8 colonies, only one survived (#13). Queen failure seemed to be the cause of most colony deaths, with suggestion of starvation and stress in two of the colonies. Four brood chambers prepped to receive packages this Thursday.  Anna C.
