the practical bee club

The New Westminster’s Beekeeping Association is a non-profit registered society whose primary goal is to provide training and camaraderie for its members.

Established in the spring of 2015 this ‘practical’ bee club is unlike any other.  We meet almost weekly from March to October in the bee yard.  Each meeting starts with a 15 to 30-minute presentation from an experienced beekeeper followed by hands-on experience for all beekeepers who wish to participate.  The club currently owns up to 16 colonies and the members share bee management tasks under close mentorship.  It is the absolute best way to learn or to hone your beekeeping skills!

Subjects covered in the bee yard include bee management plan, honey and beeswax processing, value-added bee products (hand creams, lip balms), pollen gathering, propolis collection, honey extracting, swarm collection, nest removals, and much more.

The club also offers a bee-sting immunity program!!

From the beginning, the City of New Westminster has supported the club by providing capital project funds, a secure space, and fresh water for club beehives in the beautiful and lush Queens Park!
